Meet Mike
Michael Cahillane, named the 2010 Prosecutor of the Year, is running for Northwestern District Attorney because he has the experience and understanding to lead the office of the D.A. – and to fight for the victims of crime. Born and raised in Northampton, he graduated from Northampton High School and went on to attend Saint Anselm College - and then Suffolk University Law School.
Michael began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in April of 2000. He was assigned as a criminal prosecutor, serving the District Courts of Greenfield and Orange. In December of 2001 he was assigned to the District Courts of Hampshire County, where he served in Northampton, Belchertown, Hadley and Ware. In January of 2004, he was put in charge of the prosecution of major felonies in the Superior Courts of Franklin and Hampshire Counties. Over the past ten years, he has prosecuted thousands of criminal cases. Because of Mike’s dedication to public service and his record of successfully prosecuting felonies, his peers in the district attorney’s association voted him the 2010 William C. O’Malley Prosecutor of the Year. He was also recognized by the State Police for his part in taking down a large drug dealing operation in the state.
Michael is married to Christine (Capers) Cahillane and lives in Northampton with their two rescued Greyhounds, Blue and Gracie.
