Colonel Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, is pleased to announce that Assistant District Attorney Michael A. Cahillane of Northampton has received the Massachusetts State Police Superintendent’s Commendation. Mr. Cahillane was honored during a ceremony held July 14 at State Police General Headquarters.

On October 2, 2008, the Belchertown Police Department requested the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police regarding a kidnapping and assault that had just occurred in Belchertown. Members of the State Police Hampshire/Franklin Detective Unit responded and began the investigation along with the Belchertown PD. The investigation led to the discovery of a large scale marijuana distribution ring in the area. Mr. Cahillane’s outstanding prosecutorial efforts assisted in bringing the case to a successful conclusion.

Mr. Cahillane is a 1988 graduate of Northampton High School and a 1992 graduate of Saint Anselm College. He also has a Juris Doctor from Suffolk Law School.
